Despite the very windy conditions which made catching and handling difficult, both teams should be congratulated for endeavouring to keep the ball on the superb Gareth Edwards Pitch to play running rugby.
For the Millfield team , this was the last game of a very successful 15 a side season, and the first time to play an Accies U18 selection. The Accies were represented by talented schools'
players from Wales and England.
From the first whistle , the Millfield team's skilful physical pack, well supported by quick threequarters, took the game to the Accies, who, slowly but surely matched their opponents in open play. End to end play after 40 mins. showed the scoreboard 12 points to 5 points in Millfield's favour.
Following replacement changes by both teams at half time, and with deteriorating wind conditions in their favour, Millfield slowly established a stranglehold on a game which a brave Accies team could not break. By the final whistle , Millfield had scored 4 tries ( two by forward drives), to Accies' 2 tries, with Millfield deserved winners 34 pts to 17 pts.
Sincere thanks must be offered to John Mallett, Master in charge of rugby, and to the dining room staff for such a warm, hospitable welcome to Accies players, committee, and supporting parents on such a special rugby day.
