Christ College Brecon 5 Welsh Academicals 55

Wednesday 12th October 2011

The Accies marked their first-ever fixture against Christ College Brecon with a comfortable win in pleasant surroundings. Before the match both teams lined up for a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Accies’ Life Member John Lowe and former Wales international Robin Davies, who also played for the Welsh Academicals.

The match itself was well refereed and played in excellent spirit with both sides attempting to move the ball throughout. Ultimately the greater strength and larger physique of the Accies won the day but not after some spirited resistance and inventive play by the College side.
After 23 minutes the score remained a 0 – 0, but a burst of 4 tries in 8 minutes, three of which were converted, put the Accies in complete command and a further converted try gave a half-time score of 0 - 33.
After a further Accies try virtually from the restart, Christ College countered with a fine move of their own and scored through their number 8 who finished off the move by dummying his way over the line for a deserved try.
Three more tries followed for the Accies with one converted to leave the final score at 5 – 55.
Christ College proved excellent hosts on the day and it is hoped that the Welsh Academicals can look forward to returning to Brecon in the future.
